San Marzano Vini S.p.A. : Leading wine producer from the region of Puglia

San Marzano is a well-known winemaker from Puglia, located in the heel of Italy’s boot. Cantine San Marzano started in 1962, when 19 vine growers from the village of San Marzano, whose families had farmed the land for decades, banded together to pursue their dream. It has expanded significantly over the years and now attracts over 1,200 high-quality vine growers.

The vines are grown with the utmost regard for the vineyard’s natural rhythm. The native grapes are grown in the lovely Puglian countryside, where gentle sea breezes, azure blue skies, and sun-kissed vines produce ripe, juicy fruit that bursts with flavor.

San Marzano produces elegant and clean wines that pay homage to ancient Puglian wine practices using modern vinification techniques. Wines with distinct varietal characteristics that embody the nature of the local terroir can be produced thanks to this fusion of time-honored tradition, passion, and modern craftsmanship.

San Marzano’s winemaking team is designed to produce a unique and creative style that is instantly recognizable. Davide Ragusa and Caterina Bellanova were both born and raised in Puglia: Davide is a young and talented winemaker who studied oenology in Florence and honed his practical skills over many years. Caterina reflects the exquisite touch needed to produce iconic wines. San Marzano invests in a wide range of young adult profiles in order to get the most out of them.

The Primitivo and San Marzano San Marzano has played a key role in elevating Primitivo’s reputation and profile by making world-class wines and iconic labels. Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP, for example, is the product of the President, Mr. Francesco Cavallo’s, vision to develop a new wine that could convey the authenticity of the Primitivo grape in a fresh and modern way.

The worldwide popularity of rosé wines, as well as “Tramari,” a San Marzano Rosé made from Primitivo grapes.

It’s a fascinating phenomenon, and it’s a global movement that’s only getting stronger. Rosé consumption has risen by about 30% in the last 20 years, and San Marzano, as one of the oldest Italian wine expressions, is ready to meet this challenge. It has a long history, grapes have been carefully picked over the years, and winemaking techniques have now been mastered. It’s a wine that’s been dubbed “Millenials’ champagne”… so that everybody can see where this is heading, and Puglia has a lot to give in this area.

Below is the list of wines that won Gold and Silver Medal Awards awarded and recognized by Asia Import News Asia Awards 2021 competition:

Tramari Primitivo Rosé. Primitivo grapes are used exclusively in the production of this light and crisp rosé. Fresh red berry flavors stand out, and the salty note harkens back to the sea from which it hails. “Tramari” (meaning “between two seas”) is a charming mix of sophisticated and casual. With it, a plate of firm cheeses and cold cuts is a must. This vintage has benefited from more fragrant berries, selected at the ideal balance of acid and aromatic ingredients, ensuring perfect control of the short maceration, the winemaking peculiarity par excellence of Puglia’s rosés wines.
