What can come out of the magic combination of earth, life and wine?!
Some amazing good wines of course!
WHEN PASSION BECOMES A JOB
The Bonsegna winery was founded at the behest of Primo Michele Bonsegna in 1964, at Nardò, the land of the noble Negroamaro, the robust Primitivo and the soft Malvasia Nera, once one of the largest fiefdoms in Italy, with an extension of vines among the widest in Salento.
Since 1991 the Bonsegna company is led by his son Alessandro , who has inherited not only the management, but also the passion for a job that can be so hard and burdensome, as full of great satisfactions.
WINERY & WINEYARDS
The company has about 18 hectares of vineyards owned by the historic districts of Cenate Vecchie, Carignano, Nucci and Speranza, all in the countryside of Nardò.
The Bonsegna vineyards, divided into 25 hectares, are located entirely in the countryside of Nardò, in the historic districts, better suited to the whole area, and many of them in the immediate vicinity of the beautiful protected area of the Natural Park of Portoselvaggio .
At Bonsegna the agricultural management has always been aimed at respecting nature and plants, using integrated production systems that aim to limit the use of fertilizers and plant protection products to the minimum required. Here we grow, in addition to the native grapes of Negroamaro, Primitivo and Malvasia Nera of Lecce, also other less typical grapes that for years belong to the most cultivated grapes of Salento: Malvasia Bianca, Garganega and Chardonnay, as regards the white berried grapes, and Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese for the black grapes.
The Bonsegna winery is located in the center of Nardò, in a building dating back to the early ‘900, with characteristics aimed at ogive, typically Lecce.
The production is around 150,000 bottles, with a good sale, much in demand, of loose wine directly in the cellar.
THE AMAZING BONSEGNA WINES
The wines of the Bonsegna Company are very linked to the territory, and are able to fully express the characteristics of the great potential of the Neretine countryside.
Three product lines, a basic line called Cenate Vecchie , with a white wine produced from Garganega and white Malvasia grapes, a rosé and a red wine from Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera grapes. a medium line with three IGTs, called Baia d’Uluzzo , with particular productions from monovitigno, Primitivo, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, that manage to demonstrate how the territory of Neretino is dedicated to the production of quality wines, and a top line, the Danze of the Countess, dedicated to the DOC wines of the company that features the Negroamaro and the black Malvasia of Lecce, with a rosé, and two reds, of which one aged in small wood.
With the 2007 vintage, a top wine is added, the Primo , born from a blend of Primitivo and Negroamaro, with aging in small wood, which Alessandro Bonsegna wanted to dedicate to his father Primo Michele Bonsegna, in memory of the passion and dedication proven, and that will only come out in the years that will allow it.
Indeed the Bonsegna wines are all “serious” wines, made with the right respect for the traditions and expressiveness of the territory, never caricatural or presumptuous, which would surely have liked Primo Bonsegna!
We are proud to have The Bonsegna Wines as winners on our AIN Wine Challenge 2018 Competition! We congratulate them once again and wish them good luck!
