Vignamato

A PIECE OF HISTORY

In the late 1940s, Umberto Ceci bought a small plot of land in S. Paolo di Jesi, in a hamlet called Battinebbia devoted to the growing of Verdicchio grapes. In the early 1950s, the land was assigned to Amato and his wife Maria, keen growers who started to produce and sell their wines from the farm building on the estate.

Their experience and passion for their vineyard, carefully tended to guarantee the quality of the grapes, drew their son Maurizio and his wife Serenella into the project. Believing that change must be embraced if a business is to grow and improve, in 1992 a new project was developed: “Vignamato”, in other words “the Amato vine” — a symbol of our love for this adventure and the world of wine.
The brand very quickly reached superior levels of excellence with an exemplary formula melding the best of tradition with the latest technology. Using cutting-edge equipment, innovative technologies and sustainable agricultural techniques, the Vignamato estate, now also a “Teaching Farm”, developed a line of products recognized for their excellence without ever forsaking their origins and the strong bond with the traditions of the past.

The Ceci family, thanks to the youthful energy of children AlessandraAndrea and Francesco, has taken the Vignamato brand to the highest levels possible, and higher still, garnering ever more acclaim and accolades in international markets.

VERDICCHIO

The only region in Italy in the plural, the Marches , with an area of about 10,000 km (squares) extends from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea in harmonious valleys mostly parallel. The Marches are actually a magnificent patch of land or, as the political scientists and economists say , one big city.On the hills that flank and mark the degradation towards the plain, there are the Castles that tell us the Middle Ages when Jesi conquered the surrounding territories by building fourteen fortresses in his defense.

On these slopes of seductive beauty, from the Roman era one of the most fascinating Italian native vines is cultivated: Verdicchio .

Thanks to the clayey and calcareous soils and to the air currents that go back to the valleys from the sea, the Verdicchio dei Castelli Jesi only in these lands has found its geomorphological habitat , unique for this wine elsewhere unrepeatable. Its excellent quality / price ratio has ensured its success and growth up to making it one of the most loved and consumed white wines by Italians.
In Vignamato “terroir” of the most ancient tradition, the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi boasts the classic name . The PDO also includes theClassic Superior , Classic Reserve , Passito and Spumante types . With the ” Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva Classico ” typologywhich includes an obligatory aging period of at least 18 months of which at least 6 months in the bottle and which has obtained the prestigious DOCG recognition Verdicchio is consecrated among the great Italian white wines.

The vineyards located in S. Paolo di Jesi, Montecarotto and Cupramontana are of different slopes and terroirs, and at altitudes of 220m to 500m asl, specializing in the production of PDO wines, such as Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and PGI wines. The estate currently has more than 27 hectares of vines, spread across eight separate plots, each with unique characteristics that respect and celebrate the terroir and individual grape varieties.

The white grapes are grown with the Guyot system and Verdicchio, a white, autochthonous grape, is the most prevalent, grown over 23 hectares. To produce innovative wines capable of taking on the finest products being produced around the world, the Incrocio Bruni 54 hybridisation (Verdicchio pollinated with Sauvignon Blanc) was planted. The red grape vines grown are MontepulcianoSangiovese and Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. New planting patterns for international varieties (Cabernet and Merlot) with high plant density per hectare (around 6500) have recently been introduced.

A visciole cherry orchard has also been cultivated on the estate to produce Vì de visciola (a wine and visciole cherry-based aromatic drink), and an olive grove withancient MignolaCarboncellaRaggia and Orbetana – plants used to make an excellent extra-virgin olive oil.

The essence of Vignamato approach is to make wines which reflect the land.

The delicate and meticulous vinification, in small tanks, of the grapes from each individual vineyard and the fusion of time-honoured tradition and modern technology are done for a sole purpose — to produce wines of exclusive origin, wines which taste of Vignamato and evoke the slogan “emotion in a bottle.”

Emotion is what their wines made us feel also!
