Champagne Lanson

Amazing Champagnes from France!

Champagne Lanson
Interview of Mr.Anton Hobbs -Area Manager -Lanson Asia for AsiaImportNews – Exclusive

Could you please tell us the story of your Winery/House, when it was created, and how it developed over the years ?
The House goes back to 1760, – one of the very oldest Houses in Champagne. It has an almost continuous history of Family control, with the Lanson very much in evidence. Nowadays 3 historic local Champagne families, – the Paillard, Baijot and Boizel families, have a major presence in the control of the House of Lanson.

What sort of wines are you producing ?
Among the groups of champagne producers, we are always ranked in the top 3 – but unlike most of the other larger groups we are one of the few to focus on only producing wines from our Champagne region.

Champagne Lanson – Tasting

How important is you export distribution compared to your own national distribution in France ?
At Champagne Lanson we sell around 20% to 25% of our annual production here in France, – with the remainder being exported to other countries.

What kind of distributors do you have ?
We control our distribution through our own companies in the UK, the USA and France. Outside these 3 countries we usually use small family-controlled companies for the smaller countries, but often larger companies for the bigger markets such as Japan, Australia, etc

Champagne Lanson – The Barrels

If there are any specific characteristics, how are your wines different from other wines in your area ?
The avoidance of the malo-lactic fermentation is the key banner under which our wines are made, giving our champagnes the prevalent traditional style of champagne. This preserves the original fruitiness, and imparts to our wines a mouth-watering freshness, as well as an enhanced ability for the wines to age over time.

Champagne Lanson – Grapes

Do you produce wines in an organic or environment friendly method, or with general methods ?
Yes we do have an Organic champagne. We launched our Lanson Green Label Brut N/V last year 2016, and it has found increasing interest in the trade.

Champagne Lanson – Working Days

Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not, in which countries you are looking for new distributors ?
Yes, our wines have been distributed in Asia for a long time, so that our relationships in many cases go back many years. Given this context we very rarely change distributors, so that currently we are NOT looking for other importers in Asia.
