Interview of Ms. JEANETTE SERVIDIO – CEO – Campo alle Comete for AsiaImportNews – Exclusive

Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developed decades after decades ?

The winery « CAMPO ALLE COMETE“ was acquired in February 2016 by Feudi di San Gregorio. The name is an antique toponym from this area, which disappeared since a long time. When we discovered it in some historical books of the region, we knew immediately that the name reflects precisely the philosophy we want to express.

The name wants to depict a magic and imaginary world; a world where fantasy can be freed, a world where you can escape to the daily routine and live a dream with your eyes open.

Not only the logo, which represents a delicate blow ball, but the whole representation of Campo all Comete brings you immediately into a dream world. Nicoletta Ceccoli, an illustration artist from San Marino and winner of various art awards, has designed not only this logo for us but also a dreamlike picture, exhibited in our Villa. And from small special details of this picture she created also our labels.

The property consists of approximately 17 hectares and is located at the foot of Castagneto Carducci divided into 14.5 hectares of vineyards, as well as 2.5 hectares of olive trees. The varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot, planted between 1993 and 2007 are all written into the Bolgheri DOC registry.

What sort of wines are you producing ?

We are in Tuscany in the Bolgheri area, where the Bordeaux varieties are the main players of the appellation. So, we are doing one wine 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and Stupore DOC Bolgheri red, which is a blend based on Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah & Petit Verdot.

In addition we have a Vermentino and a Rosè DOC Bolgheri.

A Bolgheri Superiore will follow in 2018.

How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?

Actually, we started this new project only in November with Stupore and have introduced only now in March the other 3 wines, so for the moment we are distributing mainly in Italy and start only now to distribute our wines on the export market.

What sort of distributors are your customers ?

Normally we are looking for one national distributor in each country, but in some countries we prefer to go with different regional distributors, as the territory is to big for a single distributor, like in USA or Cina.

Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?

The Bolgheri territory is small, but we have several soil conditions, which change in every winery. We have soils with clay, very good for Merlot, and soils rich with a lot of limestone suitable for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This offers great personal character to each single wine of the area.

Our wines have a good part of Merlot and in any case all the grapes arrive to complete maturation, so that they are very pleasant drinking and gentle on the palate. You can enjoy the wines because of a low acidity and a smooth taste.

Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?

We are in conversion to biological vineyard management since fall of last year in order to offer healthy wines.

Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?

As I told before, we are approaching right now the distribution abroad and are interested on a qualified distribution in different countries in Asia.

Is there anything who want to add about your wines, story or any news ?

CAMPO ALLE COMETE is the “Tuscan Challenge” of the Capaldo Family – owner of Feudi di San Gregorio – and is fully consistent with Antonio Capaldo’s vision of sustainable viticulture and high quality wine production.

The vision behind this project is to combine Feudi di San Gregorio know how and innovative philosophy with the historic characteristics of Bolgheri unique terroir.
