Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developed decades after decades ?
The winery OM Oliver Moragues is located in one of the oldest manors in the island of Mallorca, which has been property of the same family since year 1511. In the early 90’s the family started to bottled the wines under the name OM and to start exporting worldwide always following the main principles of quality, limited productions, hand-harvesting and working with local grapes.
The finca maintains the philosofy of a ‘small french chatteau’ and it is surrounded by the 10 hectars of vineyards and 120 Hectars of forests. It is a living legacy and a part of the history of the island Mallorca. Nowadays we try to elaborate the best wines in Spain and to make them from the local mallorcan grapes.
What sort of wines are you producing ?
All wines are producing trying to keep the fruit as the main part of the wines, and all incorporate local grapes. OM wines are:
– Picafusta · a Rosé from local grape Gargollassa, a rarety.
– OM Blanc · white with 2 months in oak from Sauvignon, Viognier and Prensal bl.
– El Galgo · a red with 6 months in new french oak from local grape Callet
– OM 500 · a red with 12 months in french aok, blend of french and mallorcan grapes
– OM Selecció · a red with 12 months in new french aok, blend of french and mallorcan grapes
All wines are sold in limited productions and with previous reservation. The winery produces between 50.000 and 60.000 bottles a year, and we don’t want to get bigger.
How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?
We are currently exporting a 60% of all our production as part of the strategy for arriving to new markets and getting to know the mallorcan grapes and wines.
What sort of distributors are your customers ?
We always look for the best distributors in every country; only the most reliable distributors, who understand about wine and they love wine as much as we do. This is the only way to establish long cooperations and to get the best aproach to the best customers, restaurants and clients in every market. For a winery selling wine fast is easy, but only the long-term relationships with the best partners guaranty that our wines are distributed as they deserve.
Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?
I would say first the quality of the wines. It also define our wines the winery which is lcoated in of the oldest manors of the island with more than 5 centuries of history. The third point that differenciate us is the different vineyard-strategies that we use to get the best fruit possible, which is unique.
Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?
All the vineyards and wines are 100% organic certified and for us this doesn’t mean having an stamp but the way to obtain the best fruit possible from our plants.
Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?
In Asia we already distribute in South-Korea and Hong Kong, and we are still looking for the proper partners in all other countries of Asia.
