Interview of Giovanni Gurrieri – Owner –  Gurrieri for AsiaImportNews – Exclusive

Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developped decades after decades ?
The family produces Gurrieri, with passionate work, grapes, wine and oil in Sicily, in Ragusa, in the sunny Monti Iblei, and in the fertile Val di Noto. The production includes wines D.O.C.G., D.O.C. and I.G.T. of Sicily, also honored with awards at international level. The farm Gurrieri Vincenzo Battaglia, and Graziella, together with his sons Giovanni  and Angela, for years has been committed to promote the area and the adoption of environmentally sustainable methods. The Gurrieri wines tell, in fact, the history and the beauty of unspoiled nature of the Iblei Mountains, with rows embroidering the slopes of a clayey soil from the reflexes, “natural” paradise for the screw. The Mediterranean climate, here characterized by major temperature fluctuations, helps to give the product strength, vigor, scents and exceptional flavors.

What sort of wines are you producing ?
The farm grows the prized native vines Nero d’Avola and Frappato, from which it gets the Nero d’Avola and Frappato in purity, both D.O.C.G. Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico and Donna Grace (vinified in Rosé, and White sparkling wine with the classic method).

How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?
Our export distribution covers 30% of our production, our domestic distribution covers 70% of our production,

What sort of distributors are your customers ?
Our customers are small and medium distribution.
Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?
Our grapes are harvested by hand in two steps to get the maximum result from different maturation; they are transported in small boxes so as not to mistreat the berries, gently pressed and vinified.
Nero d’Avola, also said Calabrese, is an ancient Sicilian variety, has always cultivated in the rolling hills of the Iblei Mountains, in the province of Ragusa. Frappato, a native grape variety of the Vittoria area, is grown on the farm yields measured in order to offer very sweet and fine tannins. Frappato vinified alone gives a very persuasive wine, with fruity aromas that offer the ideal complement to the increased strength of the Nero d’Avola, increasing its complexity and making the harmonic D.O.C.G. Cerasuolo di Vittoria and Donna Grazia.
Our Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a red strong and ancient tradition and owes its identity to the combination of the strength of the Nero d’Avola and the kindness of Frappato which makes a dry wine, full, round and pleasantly fragrant and elegant.
